Mentoring

Our goal is to provide faculty mentoring both formally and informally, and through workshops.

  • All new faculty should have access to mentoring in their department or school.
  • We offer workshops for assistant and associate professors on the tenure and advancement process. Watch for an email from the Vice Provost for the Faculty each semester inviting you to these workshops.
  • All assistant and associate professors have access to the resources for faculty success that are available from the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). A sample of the kinds of resources available through NCFDD can be found here.
  • As part of Berkeley’s mentoring efforts, a team of senior faculty is available to provide campuswide advice and support on publishing journal articles - Faculty Mentoring Team.

Writing Groups

Each semester we send out an invitation to assistant and associate professors who are writing books to join a writing group. The goal is to have a time and place set aside for writing together with a few colleagues. Come join your colleagues in 33 Giannini Hall in a quiet space to make progress on your writing.

If you are interested in joining a writing group or want to use the room with a few friends, please email ofew@berkeley.edu
