Data and Initiatives

The Office for Faculty Equity and Welfare is responsible for the landscape of faculty equity and diversity at UC Berkeley. OFEW conducts regular data collection and analyses of hiring pipelines, benchmarks, and campus progress with respect to faculty demographics, including gender identity, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, age, disability, international status, rank, and the intersections of these and other factors.

OFEW conducts data analyses of hiring patterns and outcomes and produces data reports, presentations, and recommendations for various campus constituencies and leadership, including department chairs, deans, the Vice Provost, the Provost, and the Chancellor.

OFEW uses the data it collects to design initiatives that can improve faculty equity and welfare, allowing OFEW to adapt to change and focus on issues most salient to faculty at any given time. OFEW’s equity-related empirical research focuses on salary and advancement, diversity, and inclusion and belonging.
