Thomas M. Philip

I’ve always engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations and scholarship, which have been immensely rewarding. Earlier in my career, I found it extremely challenging to participate in distinct fields and speak across them, especially when addressing issues of race and power as a researcher. (These challenges certainly take new forms later in one’s professional trajectory.) I’m happy to be a thought partner with colleagues navigating similar opportunities and dilemmas.

Sonia Katyal

I have served as an Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development for several years (both here and elsewhere) at the Law School and can advise colleagues regarding mentoring, campus leadership and collaboration, work/life balance, and how to design research projects that engage with various communities.

Adrian Aguilera

I am excited to provide advice on working towards a balance of career and broader life success for faculty. I'm especially committed to working with underrepresented faculty to help them feel included and achieve success at Berkeley.

Rodrigo Almeida

I have been on the Berkeley faculty since 2006 and currently serve as Division Chair in my department (ESPM). I came to the US for my PhD, and I was not confident I belonged or fit anywhere until well past tenure; great mentors were instrumental in that journey.

Teresa Caldeira

For the last 20 years, I have worked for the creation and implementation of DEIB initiatives in the UC system. At UC Irvine, I was an ADVANCE Equity Advisor. At UC Berkeley, I served several times as the Diversity/Equity officer for my department and was instrumental in creating its first Strategic Plan for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity. As chair of my department, I deepened my knowledge about processes of promotion and advancement and have been advising colleagues, especially assistant professors, on how to prepare their files for merit and promotion. I care immensely about mentoring students and have experimented with different ways of doing this effectively. I received a Faculty Mentor Award, Graduate Assembly, UCB in 2012.

Chung-Pei Ma

As the pace of discoveries quickens and as we move up the academic ladder, the demands on our time and the responsibilities of our faculty role also change. I have mentored and collaborated with other faculty members, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students, and high school students. I look forward to sharing these experiences with my faculty colleagues and also learning from them.

Lok Siu

Experience matters, but listening is paramount when it comes to mentoring. As a woman of color and a first generation scholar, I have more than 20 years of experience navigating complex institutions like UC Berkeley and the academy, more generally. I bring my own insights, but I am most interested in helping colleagues define their goals, develop strategies, build community, and achieve a sense of belonging and fulfillment.

Lisa García Bedolla

As a core advisory I bring my twenty years of experience navigating the UC system as a woman of color. I have expertise in understanding complex institutions and ensuring that your needs are met within those institutions. When mentoring junior faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates I have focused on helping them to find their voice, their joy, and the career path that best meets their professional and personal needs.
