I have been on the Berkeley faculty since 2006 and currently serve as Division Chair in my department (ESPM). I came to the US for my PhD, and I was not confident I belonged or fit anywhere until well past tenure; great mentors were instrumental in that journey. I have not been on campus long enough to know the answer to most questions, but long enough to know who probably does.

Rodrigo Almeida's laboratory studies the ecology of emerging plant diseases with a focus on insect-borne pathogens. They use field, greenhouse, laboratory, and computational tools and approaches to better understand how plant-pathogen-insect interactions affect disease spread. They use this holistic approach to bridge fundamental and applied sciences to help manage and control plant diseases.
